Vice President, Operations

Our client, a nationally acclaimed commercial interior design firm located in Chicago, is seeking a Vice President, Operations with a proven track record of creating operational excellence. The VP Operations will be the glue of the organization and ensure clients and employees are highly engaged and satisfied. This individual will be responsible for safeguarding the proprietary fundamentals of the work while ensuring project profitability. This includes leading and managing people, processes, execution, and outcome of the work produced by the organization for design, architecture, purchasing and installation.

  • Lead and manage while holding operation members accountable
  • Hire, mentor, develop, and motivate team members to reach their full potential
  • Provide guidance to project designers and architects
  • Develop and integrate design review process to assure quality of project designs
  • Ensure the firm’s fundamentals are integrated into the training for all new hires
  • Manage the unique design project aspects including subcontractors and or specialized consultants.
  • Ensure all projects are completed within established budget parameters
  • Review outcome of completed design projects and identify opportunities to improve productivity, profitability, and outcome
  • Oversee internship program by building relations with universities and top design programs
  • Proactively identify, develop, and recommend improvements as necessary to all design and operation processes
  • Review incoming RFP’s and recommend appropriate design fees with the team
  • Review incoming contract project architectural plans
  • Direct and manage outside consultants performing project work


  • Bachelor’s degree in interior design or architecture
  • At least ten years of leadership experience in construction, architecture and/or design
  • Demonstrated success in creating and implementing sound project management
  • Experience implementing accounting structure using project management tools
  • Proven ability to lead and develop team members


  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and all team members
  • History of effective use of architectural drawings and sketches
  • Ability to identify and implement the firm’s design fundamentals
  • Demonstrate a high level of professional integrity by taking pride, ownership, and responsibility for self, as well as team member’s work
  • Act as a positive influence for the employees and leaders
  • Technology skills including AutoCAD, Project Management, and Microsoft Office
  • Maintain up-to-date understanding of industry trends
