Director | Procurement

Mary Cook Associates, a nationally acclaimed commercial interior design firm located in Chicago, is seeking a Director of Procurement with a proven track record. From the largest furniture manufacturers in the country to smaller, specialty artisans, MCA matches the vendor with the project needs to curate distinctive interiors that reflect the firm’s reputation for quality and results. The Director of Procurement will manage all aspects of the procurement process including budgeting, ordering, reselections, expediting, warehousing, freight, and damage claims. The Director will also oversee our installation process. Great design doesn’t end with great selections. How they are all put together is just as critical to the project’s successful completion. MCA’s skilled in-house installers apply more than a decade of experience to oversee all aspects of the installation. From receiving and unloading deliveries, to performing a quality check, arranging all furniture and furnishings, and hanging and securing artwork, MCA configures interiors that are market ready. This individual will be responsible for safeguarding the proprietary fundamentals of the work while ensuring project profitability. This includes leading and managing the people, processes, execution, and outcome of the work produced for procurement and installation.

  • Successfully run the procurement of multiple projects simultaneously
  • Develop detailed budget projection in collaboration with design team
  • Work directly with clients to handle procurement issues including budget issuance
  • Ensure all projects are completed within established budget parameters
  • Review outcome of completed projects and identify opportunities to improve productivity, profitability, and outcome
  • Drive production and profitability
  • Work with operations leadership team to drive accountability, create leadership unity, and execute business plans
  • Develop and integrate procurement review process to assure quality of work
  • Proactively identify, develop, and recommend improvements as necessary to procurement processes
  • Manage vendor relationships including optimal pricing and credit terms
  • Identify and source new vendors aligned with MCA projects through multiple methods including attending trade shows + vendor presentations
  • Ensure the firm’s fundamentals are integrated into the training for all new hires


  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in a business-related field
  • At least ten years of leadership experience in procurement
  • Demonstrated success in creating and implementing sound project management
  • Proven ability to lead and develop team members
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and all team members
  • Read and comprehend architectural drawings and sketches.


  • Ability to identify the firm’s design fundamentals when considering reselections or alternates options
  • Demonstrate a high level of professional integrity by taking pride, ownership, and responsibility for self, as well as team member’s work
  • Act as a positive influence for the employees and leaders
  • Technology skills including project Management tools and Microsoft Office Products
  • Maintain up-to-date understanding of industry trends
